Lookout, Md.; exchanged 11/1/64; lived on Little River Turnpike (Rt. 123) near Burke's Station Rd. 1879; d. 9/7/1897; bur. Fairfax Cemetery; father of Pvt. Guy B. and Richard Farr Broadwater, Co. A, 43rd Battalion. Va. Cavalry; cousin of Pvt. Charles A. Gunnell.

Notes: Charles Guy Broadwater died 1827 and wife Catherine Gunnell died 1827 so son Arthur born 1818 was left an orphan at about age 9. Who raised him? Will follow up on this.

Per 1870 census Providence - Fairfax Co Va he was living next door to Thomas Harrison and wife Priscilla Cook. He had living in his house:
550 Broadwater Arthur 57 abt 1813 Male White Virginia
550 Broadwater Catherin 46 abt 1824 Female White Virginia
550 Broadwater Richard T 23 abt 1847 Male White Virginia
550 Broadwater Isabella 20 abt 1850 Female White Virginia
550 Broadwater Arthur 11 abt 1859 Male White Virginia
550 Murray John 27 abt 1843 Mulatto Virginia
550 Murray Eugena 2 abt 1868 Male Mulatto Virginia

In 1850 he was the owner of 8 slaves. A slave Robert died in 1855. John Murray in house likely another former slave.

11/23/2015 - Per obituary posted by Audrey, one of his free Negros was named George Brown who joined the Federal Army and was a guard at same time of Broadwater was incarcerated at Pt Lookout.

The gr grandfather of Charles Broadwater was also named Charles Broadwater.
At time of death he left four sons and a wife - mentioned a son Guy Broadwater (making 5 sons) died in Texas - we are missing him as of this writing.
