Stanton Pemberton was prominent in Republican activities throughout the state. He served in the Illinois State Senate from 1896-1912 and was President Pro Tempore in 1907. Pemberton Hall on the Campus of Charleston Teachers College, now Eastern Illinois University, is named after him.
