Grace R. Vanderbilt, 76, Athol, died Monday at Kootenai Medical Center.

Born Dec. 14, 1911, in Bonners Ferry, to Ernest and Sarah Barber, she moved to Coeur d'Alene at a young age and attended Coeur d'Alene schools. In May of 1949 she married Bert Vanderbilt in Coeur d'Alene and they settled in Athol, where she had since lived. She was an avid gardener and her gardens became a point of interest. She was a member of the Seventhday Adventist Church.

Survivors include her husband at home; son Bud Vanderbilt of Hayden Lake; daughter Jeanette Miller of Coeur d'Alene; brothers Horance and Harold Barber of Coeur d'Alene; sisters Doris Brown and Violet Barber of Coeur d'Alene; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene chapel, with the Rev. Paul Penno officiating. Burial will follow at the Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held tonight through service time Thursday.
