U.S. Congressman. He attended the Hopkinton and Meriden Academies, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1841 and commenced to practice law in Bradford, New Hampshire. Entering politics, he served in the New Hampshire State House of Representatives (1853-55). In 1855, he was elected as an American Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress and reelected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses, serving until 1861.
