JAMES OLIVER GODWIN
1912-2003
James Oliver Godwin, born October 2, 1912 in Oak Grove Community FL, to Henry and Lottie Godwin, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home on August 30, 2003. Beloved husband of 67 years to Jewell Grace Sharpless; loving father to Gwendolyn Godwin-Mann, and James Craig Godwin, adored grandfather to Kimberly (Dr. Lars Isanberg, PHd), Kamala (Randy Mote), K.Amber (Rodger Hill); Little Gwen (William Ramsey), James Tyler Godwin and Van Henry. Left also to mourn is his dear brother Herman E. Godwin, eight great grand children, many nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in- law.
Those who knew him or were touched by his quiet generosity will sadly miss him.
He was a graduate of Tate High School. He retired in 1977 after 37 years of unselfish and devoted service to the Naval Air Reworks Facility, NAS Pensacola and was a member of AFGE Local 1960. He was a member of the Warrington Baptist Church for over forty years.
! The family wishes to acknowledge close relatives and friends, Covenant Hospice, Council on Aging of West Florida, all of whose' unique and special contributions helped in fulfilling their desire for Jewell Grace and him to remain in their home during their declining years.
Visitation will be at 1:00 followed by the funeral at 2:00 in the Oak Grove Baptist Church located on Highway 99, in The Oak Grove Community of Escambia County, FL on Thursday, October 4, 2004.
Pallbearers will be Julian Godwin, Roy (Buddy ) Godwin, Don Godwin, William Ramsey, Melvin Wartenbe, and W. J. McElwain.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family suggests donations to Covenant Hospice, Council On Aging of West Florida, or Alzheimer's Family Services.
