Son of Malcolm Leonard and Mary Alice Keith McMillan, husband of Henrietta Hodges.

MULLINS - Dr. Lonnie Malcolm McMillan, 63 prominent surgeon and founder of the Mullins hospital, died this afternoon after an illness of nine years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning from the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Percy B. Upchurch. Interment will follow at the McMillan Cemetery near Mullins.

Survivors include his widow, the former Henrietta Hodges; three sons, Lonnie M. McMillan Jr., Dean H. McMillan and Lindsey B. McMillan; one daughter, Mrs. Henry Randolph of Marion; four brothers, Chief Highway Commissioner Claude R. McMillan of Columbia, Congressman John L. McMillan of Washington, Maxie K. McMillan and Dr. Carl B. McMillan, both of Mullins; two sisters, Mrs. Sherwood Nye of Conway and Mrs. H. D. Grant of Greenville; and 2 grandchildren.

The son of the late Malcolm L. and Alice Keith McMillan, pioneer residents of Mullins, Dr. McMillan was graduated from Wake Forest College and the Medical College of SC. He served internships at McLeod Infirmary in Florence and Roper Hospital in Charleston. He was a member of the county, state and national medical associations, also a member of Southeast Surgical Congress.

For a number of years Dr. McMillan operated the McMillan Hospital until it was destroyed by fire. Through his efforts the Mullins Hospital was founded and he served as chief surgeon until he retired from active practice in 1942, because of ill health.

He was instrumental in the establishment of the school of nursing at the hospital and the present nurses' home was named in his honor.
