Canadian Politician. A native of Montréal, Québec, he was the son of Senator Jean-Baptiste Rolland. He studied in his hometown first with the Christian Brothers, then at the Sainte-Marie College. He began his working career as a clerk in his father’s bookshop, then in 1859 he joined officially the family business when it became known as "J.B. Rolland et Fils". He became thereafter president of this company and, in 1888, president of the paper company "Rolland", who had paper mills in Saint-Jérôme and in Mont-Rolland. He diversified his businesses by investing also in railroads and insurance companies. He was the founder and president of the Colonization and Repatriation Society of Montreal. He also founded and acted as president of the Association of the sales representatives of Canada in 1896. He served as Vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce of the district of Montreal, as member of the council of the Montreal Board of Trade Cofounder and as vice-president of the League of the citizens of Montreal. He was a member for life of the board of governors of Laval University. The town of Hochelaga saw him served in the city council first as an alderman from 1872 to 1876, then as mayor from 1876 to 1879. After the annexation of this city to Montreal, he represented the Hochelaga district from 1883 to 1892. He was named to the Legislative Council of Québec for the Division of Salaberry on November 16, 1896. He died in function in Montreal.
