Mrs. Nira Jean Rogers Schmidt, age 76 of Lyons, died Monday, October 10, 2011. She was a native of Wheeler County, growing up in Lumber City, and moved to Toombs County in 1984. She was a homemaker, Baptist by faith, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Regina Floyd; and her parents, Luther R. Rogers and Sarah Ann Rainey Rogers. Mrs. Schmidt enjoyed the outdoors, and loved to fish.

Mrs. Schmidt is survived by one son, Ronnie Schmidt and wife Judy of Brooklet; two daughters, Ann Thompson and husband Roderick of Vidalia, and Mary Ann Roberson and husband Jarvis of Jacksonville, Georgia; one brother, Bobby Rogers of Macon; one sister, Rita Forte Watson of Hinesville; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and longtime friends and caregivers, Danny Simms and Lynn Amerson of Lyons.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15th at 11:00 am in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Randy McDuffie officiating. Interment will follow in the Alamo City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00.

Memorial contributions may be made to the East Toombs Volunteer Fire Department, 2608 Georgia Hwy 292, Lyons, GA 30436.
