Capt. Al Zupan Killed in Plane Crash in Texas

BOZEMAN, Oct. 28. Capt. A[lbert]. A. Zapan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Zupan of Sand Coulee, was instantly killed today in a plane crash at Palacios army air base, Tex, according to a wire received here by his mother-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Smith.
Zupan, 28, is a 1937 graduate of Montana State college where he starred in both basketball and football. Mr. and Mrs. Zupan visited here two weeks ago.
Survivors, besides the widow and parents, include an infant son.
Burial will be in Bozeman, Mrs. Smith said.

Bozeman Rites Saturday for Captain Zupan

Funeral services for Capt. Albert A. Zupan, son of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Zupan of Sand Coulee, will be held from the Catholic church at Bozeman Saturday. Rosary will be said Friday night.
Captain Zupan, a native of Sand Coulee, was killed Oct. 28 in a plane crash at Palacios army air base in Texas. He was a graduate of Centerville high school, where he starred in basketball, and of Montana State college, where he was an outstanding gridiron and basketball player. After his graduation, he coached at Butte Central high school before entering the army.
Survivors besides his parents include his widow, an infant son, Jen Charles of Bozeman; three sisters, Mrs. Olga Powell, Mrs. Pete Kushar and Anna Zupan of Great Falls: four brothers, Stanley Zupan of Butte, Cpl. William Zupan, stationed at Camp Roberts, Calif.; Cpl. Joseph Zupan, stationed in Australia, and Frank Zupan of Belt.

Mass to Be Said in St. Patrick Church

Students and faculty members of Boys Central high school will attend a requiem high mass at St. Patrick church this morning in memory of Capt. Al Zupan, former athletic coach at the school, who was killed recently in an Army plane crash in Texas. Captain Zupan, one-time noted Montana State college athlete, left Central to join the Army Air forces.
The mass at 9 o'clock was requested by the students and faculty members of the Christian Brothers institution. Tonight at ceremonies during the half-time intermission of the Butte-Central football game, the students of both Boys and Girls Central high schools will pay tribute to the memory of the Army flyer.
