Monegasque Princess. Born countess of Merode-Westerloo of Belgium, she married (1846) the Crown Prince of Monaco, the future Charles III. Belonging to a very wealthy aristocratic family, after her husband's accession to the throne (1856), Antoniette was the main financier of some architectural and tourist structures in the Principality, including the Casino of Monte-Carlo and the DeMarchais castle. She was a reigning consort for only eight years as died prematurely of cancer.
