"Mountain Home" where he and Mary Roberta Gardner married was built by her father Samuel Buck Gardner. The front part was built first and the back part was added during her father's second marriage. His second wife had many relatives that stayed with them and they needed extra room. His daughter, Rebecca Branson Allen Gardner, who married Nelson Samuel Waller, lived there after her marriage.
When she was first married she lived in a little house across the road from "Mountain Home."
