OBITUARY

THE CHARITON LEADER
Chariton, Iowa
Tuesday, August 19, 1930

MR. LAFAYETTE E. HART, OF DERBY, DIED AUG. 4

Lafayette Everett Hart, son of K. M. and Elizabeth Fitzer Hart, was born in Wayne county, Iowa, on March 1, 1858, and departed this life at his home in Derby, Iowa, August 4, 1930, aged 72 years, 5 months and 3 days.

On July 15, 1883, he was married to Mary M. Morgan. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Bertha Davis, of Valley Junction, Iowa; W. Marble Hart, of Chariton, Iowa; Orly Everett Hart and Orville Hart, of Derby, Iowa.

For forty years Mr. and Mrs. Hart lived on their farm in Lucas county. Seven years ago they retired and went to Derby, where they continued to make their home together until separated by death. His home was to him the most attractive spot on earth, and there he loved to be, only when duty called him from it.

It is interesting to note that the site for the Eden Baptist church building was donated by Mr. Hart, and that 26 years ago he was converted in the first protracted meeting held in it. He united with the church, remained true to his faith during the remainder of his life, and when called from earth said he was ready to go.

Besides his wife and children, he leaves to mourn his death one sister, Mrs. Mattie Woolsey, of Silver City, Iowa; two half sisters, Mrs. Zeke Springer, of Cambria, Iowa, and Mrs. E. Ray Sullivan, of Indianola, Iowa; one cousin, Mrs. Alf Smith, of Humeston, Iowa; nine grandchildren and many friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Mr. J. T. Hart; one sister, Mrs. Frank Mitchell; one half brother, Mr. Henry Thomas; one half sister, Mrs. Ed Gartin, and one grandchild. All his children and his sister were present at his death.

His funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Derby on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Baptist pastor, Rev. Clark, of near Chariton, assisted by the Methodist pastor, Rev. Miss Ida Roberts, after which the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Humeston cemetery.
