Henry Allard, 93 Dies in Watertown

Henry A. Allard, 93, one oF Watertown's oldest citizens and widely known horse dealer, died June 11, 1945, at his home. Until recently he had enjoyed good health. Funeral services were held at a Watertown funeral home Wednesday afternoon with Dr. George Harlan McClung, pastor of Asbury Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery, Sandy Creek.

Surviving Mr. Allard are a daughter, Mrs. Daisy E. Jamerson of Adams, who had been with him for about a year; four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and a half-sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Packwood Buchanan of Watettown. A brother, Frederick H. Allarld, 82, died May 9 in Watertown. His wife, Mrs. Ella S. Near Allard, died February 20, 1932. A son, Clayton Allard, served in the Spanish-American war, the Boxer uprising in China and the Philippine insurrection, being killed in action in the Philippines. Another son, Clifford Allard, died about 36 years ago.

Mr. Allard was born at Lacona April l, 1852, a son of the late Hiram and Caroline Rising Allard, his father being a vetetan of the Civil War. On February 20, 1873, he was married to Miss Ella S. Near of Sandy Creek and for several years they lived near Lacona, Mr. Allard operating farms there .In 1906 they moved to Watertown, and he entered the cement and gravel business. Later he became well known in Watertown as a horse dealer, and he was actively engaged in the business until he reached the age of 88.

Mr. Allard was a former member of the Sandy Creek Methodist Church. He had been a member of Watertown. City. Lodge No. 291 I.O.O.F. for more than 35 years.
