Maxine Opal Wardlaw, 87, Beatrice, Neb., died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 28, 2002, at the Paddock Kensington Assisted Living Center in Beatrice. She was born Oct. 18, 1914, at Cortland, Neb., and graduated from Cortland High School. She married Kenneth W. Wardlaw on May 14, 1940, at Lincoln, Neb., and they lived and farmed near Pickrell, Neb., for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Pickrell and the Rural Doers Extension Club. She had worked at the former Steeple House Supper Club and at Marshall's Truck Stop for many years. In 1993 she moved to Beatrice, and for the last two years, had lived at the Paddock Kensington. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Beatrice Senior Center making coffee, setting tables or serving. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, and cooking.
Survivors: sons, Dale Wardlaw of Burlington, Colo., and Delbert Wardlaw and wife Jeanne of Beatrice; grandchildren, Carina Wardlaw Broxterman and husband Andy of Manhattan, Kan., Christine Wardlaw of Manhattan, Kan., Rebecca Wardlaw of Crete, Neb., and Steven Wardlaw of Beatrice; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Myrtle (Crosby) Goggins; husband, Kenneth W. Wardlaw (Jan. 27, 1981); son, Eugene Wardlaw; sister, Margaret Cooper; brothers, Martin Goggins, Robert Goggins, Gerard Goggins, Donald Goggins and Walter Goggins.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, United Methodist Church, Pickrell, the Rev. Sharon Pajak officiating. Burial: Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Pickrell, Nebraska.
