Joyce Armedia Parkison Farris was born March 7, 1925 to John and Lucy Woolf Parkison in Duncan, Oklahoma. Joyce passed away on October 2, 2011 in Visalia, CA at the age of 86.

Joyce met Vergil Farris at Duncan High School. After Vergil was discharged from the Navy after World War II, they were married June 29, 1946 in Modesto, CA. After a few years of residing in San Bernardino, CA, Joyce and Vergil bought a 15 acre farm northwest of Orange Cove where they resided until Vergil's death in 1997. Joyce sold the farm and moved in with her daughter, Kathy Wilson and family in Visalia.

Joyce worked for many years for Kings Canyon Unified School District as a part time bus driver and secretary at Navelencia. She was active in PTA, CSEA, and the Dinuba Church of Christ. Joyce was honored by CSEA with State recognition as secretary of the year.

Joyce is survived by her four children: Steve Farris and wife Cathy of Yorba Linda, CA, Janet Franklin and husband, Jim, of Fresno, Kelvin Farris and wife, DeAnn, of Visalia, and Kathy Wilson and husband Don of Visalia. Her sister Janice Holt and husband, Claude of Orange Cove. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial Services were held on October 8, 2011 at the Visalia Community Church. Private burial at Smith Mountain Cemetery. Any remembrances for Joyce may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were made by Smith Family Chapel, Exeter.
