U.S. Congresswoman. She attended South Georgia College and was associated with husband in various business ventures and farming. She was a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives in 1948 and a member of the Georgia Senate, (1946, 52-54). In 1955, she was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-fourth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1963. Not a candidate for re-nomination, she resumed her previous business interests until 1988, when she moved to California and lived in retirement until death at age 81.
