Watson Father, Son--Plan Double Funeral

Double funeral services will be held Friday afternoon for father and son, E. Ray Watson, 78 and Welday Watson, 56, both of Fairfield, following a tragic day for members of the Watson family.

The father died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Parkview Care Center after an illness of several months. His son died suddenly about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday of a heart attack in Burlington Memorial Hospital.

Welday Watson had gone to Burlington Wednesday evening to meet his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Watson, Houston, Texas, who been called to Fairfield because of there fathers death.

After the plane arrived about 6:30 p.m. The Watsons left the airport south of Burlington and started to Fairfield. Welday Watson was stricken at that time and was taken directly to the hospital. He died a short time later.

Services Friday will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Raymond
Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne R. Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Glasgow Cemetery.

A native of Jefferson County, Welday Watson served 20
years in the U.S. Air Force. After his retirement he was empoyed at the Post Office in Salina, Kan., where he was stationed when he left the service.

He was later transferred to the post office in Fairfield for a number of years. The family home is at 305 South D.

In September, 1972, he was transferred to the post office in Cedar Rapids where he was employed at the time of his death. He had retained his residence in Fairfield, however, spending the weekends at home.

Welday Watson was born March 27, 1919, in Glasgow Community where he was reared and educated. He was the son of E.R. And Rhuie E. Litton Watson.

His marriage to Marian Bonser took place March 8, 1941, at Mount Pleasant, During his long tour of duty in the Air Force they lived in a number of localities including, Alaska, Mississippi, Illinois and Kansas.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by three sons, Larry, Salina, Kan.; Gary, serving in the Armed Forces stationed at Indianapolis, Ind.; Welday Jr., Olympia, Wash.; two daughters, Mrs. Sheila Breck, also of Olympia, and Wanda, at home.

Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Rhuie Watson, Fairfield; three brothers, Edmond, Fairfield, William, Lockridge; and Sheman. Houston, Texas.
