Warlick - Departed this life July 19th, 1887, Bro. Abel Warlick, son of Philip and Sarah Warlick, of Burke county, N. C., and brother-in-law of Rev. R. B. Jones, by whom he was much loved. He was baptized in September, 1866, by Rev. Isaac Oxford, into the fellowship of Warlick’s Chapel, of which he lived a consistent member, and was married in December, 1866, to Miss M. M. Abernethy, daughter of J. Rooker and Stacy Abernethy, of Gaston county, N. C. He was deeply interested in the welfare of the church, a cheerful giver of his substance to the support of the gospel; longed to see his pastor well paid, and delighted in hearing preaching and worshiping God. Inoffensive, harmless, kind to all. To know him was but to love him. In his last hours he rejoiced in Christ, did not fear death, and was heard to say, “Lord Jesus, come quickly.” “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” He died most triumphantly, leaving a wife, one son and a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. May we meet him beyond river. ~ A. Friend
