Lynn Ware Burton, age 79, passed away Tuesday, Feb 2, 1999, at Davis North Hospital, after a long illness. He was born January 4, 1920 in Layton, Utah, to John William and Emily Pearl Ware Burton.

He married Arlene Parker on October 2, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Lynn graduated from Davis High School and attended Utah State University and the University of Utah. He fulfilled a mission in the Eastern States Mission from 1940 to 1942. He served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945. He was very active in the LDS Church and served as bishop's counselor, bishop, and high councilor. He served as Stake Patriarch for 27 years.He was employed as a salesman in the furniture business for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He had been employed over that time at Van Kampens, Union Furniture, R.C. Willey's, and had his own store in Layton. Lynn had been president of the Layton Chamber of Commerce and president of the Rotary Club. He was instrumental in organizing the recreation department for Layton City and served on the Davis County School Board for 14 years. He had been a guide on Temple Square and fulfilled a mission with his wife in the Mesa Temple Visitor Center.

He loved to read good books and write poetry. Lynn was an accomplished speaker and spoke at hundreds of funerals. He loved sports of all kinds, but especially high school sports. He loved to watch his sons and grandsons as they participated in sports, and never missed a game they were playing in. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his sons and cousins. Lynn enjoyed playing golf and spent several winters in St. George.

He loved being with his family and felt blessed to have them as his neighbors. Except for his time in the US Army and on missions, he lived in Layton his entire 79 years and only a short distance from the home he was born in.
Lynn is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Arlene; two sons, Dee Lynn (Sandra) Burton and David William (Dawna) Burton; eight grandchildren, Brady (Sheri), Brett (Jana), Rebecca, Brooke, Heidi (Steve), Christine, Benjamin (serving a mission in Venezuela), and Michael. Also two great-granddaughters, Hadley and Abbie Burton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne and a sister, Wilda Jones.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 1999 at the Layton Holmes Creek LDS Stake Center, 125 Chapel Street, with Bishop Dee L. Burton officiating. Friends and family may call Friday 5-7 p.m. at the Lindquist Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Rd and Saturday 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services.
