Edith Marie Ecklund, age 89, of Galesburg, IL died Monday, October 10, 2011 at 2:05 AM at OSF Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, IL. She was born July 23, 1922 in Knoxville, IL, the daughter of John Harvey and Lillian Edna Noll McCune. She married Ralph W. Ecklund on July 11, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. He survives of Galesburg, IL. Surviving are one daughter, Kathleen Cardinal of Slave Lake, Alberta, Canada; four grandchildren, Felicia Ann (Mike) Williams of Canton, TX, Nichole Marie Gorseline of Michelville, IA, Allysa Jean Gorseline of Galesburg, IL and Artie Jo Gorseline of Pekin, IL; great grandchildren, Sidney Williams of Canton, TX, Jada Smith of Galesburg, IL and Ava Klapp of Galesburg, IL; and two brothers, John Harvey "Sonny Boy" McCune of California and Thomas (Nancy) McCune of Galesburg, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Major Arthur G. Ecklund, missing in action in Vietnam found and returned for burial in 2004; four sisters, Helen McLaren, Ruth Martin, Luella Bowman, and Dorothy Rodgers and one brother, Glenn Earl (Corky) McCune. She was raised and educated in Knoxville, IL graduating from the Knoxville High School in 1940. She moved to Arizona with her family in 1953, living there for 27 years, and 3 years in California, before returning with her husband to Galesburg in 1983. She was treasurer of the Phoenix Area POW/MIA Association, board member of the following organizations: National League of Families POW/MIA, Washington, D. C., Heart of Illinois POW/MIA Association in Pekin, IL, and the Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge, Phoenix Chapter. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the VFW Post #2257; American Ex-Prisoners of War and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 Auxiliary in Galesburg, IL. She was a member of the Senior Bowling Leagues at Northgate Bowling Lanes. She was a homemaker; worked at the former Knoxville Theater in Knoxville, IL and former Galesburg Research Hospital in Galesburg.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 11 AM at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home & Crematory in Knoxville, IL. Rev. Michel D. Clark officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Funeral Home in Knoxville, IL. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, IL. Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, IL.
