Son of Joseph David and Martha Barnett. Born in Belmont County, OH. The family settled in Morrow County where Joseph died in 1851. John married Elizabeth Baer in Morrow County in 1854. The family (including mother Martha) moved to Murphysboro, Jackson County, IL where they had relatives for the 1860 and 1870 census. Mother Martha died in 1871. She is buried in the Bartlett Cemetary as is her younger sister, Margaret Barnett McClure and her husband, William McClure.
John was appointed US Postmaster in Worthington, Jackson, IL on 29 Apr 1868. John and Elizabeth moved to Emporia, Kansas sometime in the mid 1870s. Their youngest daughter, Ida, was born in Emporia in 1878. They were there for the 1880 census. John died in 1885. It is not yet substantiated that the Davids are of Welsh descent (as family folklore suggests), however, they did live in a Welsh community in Emporia.
