Tootie Terry was first married to Ambrose M. McGregor. They were very important people in the early development of Fort Myers, FL. They are mentioned many times in the book "The Story of Fort Myers" published in 1948 by Karl H. Krismer and now published by the SW FL Historical Society. The following is just a small part of the information in the book about Tootie McGregor Terry:

Ambrose, Tootie, & son Bradford came to FM in 1891 because of Bradford's sickness. Ambrose was connected to John D. Rockefeller and owned 30,000 shares of Standard Oil Company, worth $16,000,000.

Ambrose died at age 58 and Tootie was his sole heir. Bradford died 2 years later.

After the death of Ambrose, Tootie agreed with the City of FM to build a road 1/2 the distance from downtown FM to Punta Rassa if the City would build the other half. Her condition would be that it be named after her husband and it is still today known as McGregor Blvd. It is the road in front of the Thomas A. Edison Winter Home and is lined for miles with the royal palms placed there by Edison.

Also after the death of Ambrose, Tootie married Dr. M.O. Terry and became Tootie McGregor Terry. She donated 40 acres for a golf course which later became, and remains, Terry Park. The Pittsburg Pirates held spring training at Terry Park in the 50's and 60's and the KC Royals did so in the 70's & 80's.

She owned 2 hotels in FM and provided financing for many FM developments.

Much more about Tootie is discussed in the book.
