Lubbock Minister Is Struck Down By Car
Rev. A. M. Dupree Is Fatally Injured
Officers Seek Slaton Man In Death Of Evangelist For Lubbock Methodist District
Farwell, Jan. 27-
Rev. Andrew M. Dupree, 51, Lubbock Methodist minister, was fatally injured late today 10 miles east of here when struck by an automobile he was attempting to flag.
Mr. Dupree died in the car of a passing motorist, who was taking him to a hospital in Clovis.
With Mr. Dupree were two daughters, Miss Ruth Dupree, who has been a teacher in Friona schools and who was going to Lubbock to accept employment, and Mary Beth, 12, a student in Lubbock Junior High school.
Head Injuries
Rev. Dupree had severe head injuries and his left arm and left leg were broken. The door of his car was torn off by the impact.
In describing the accident, the older daughter said her father had been attempting to push their stalled machine with the door open and at the same time was attempting to flag the approaching car.
She said she refused aid which the driver of the car offered.
Farwell officers tonight sought a Slaton man to question him about the accident. Witnesses said he got into a car and started toward Clovis.

Miss Dupree said her father’s car was clear of the highway when it was struck.
The two men who first arrived at the scene of the mishap said as they approached they noticed a man leaning over the injured minister apparently trying to listen to his heart action. The man told them he was from Slaton.
Rix Funeral home of Lubbock went to Clovis tonight to take the body to Lubbock.
Moved In 1936
Mr. Dupree was evangelist of this Northwest Texas Methodist district and lived at 1920 Twentieth Street in Lubbock. He was serving his second year as district evangelist.
He moved to Lubbock in the fall of 1936 to accept the pastorate of the Asbury Methodist Church and served two years in that capacity.
Previous to going to Lubbock he had been pastor at Walsenburg, Colo.
Mr. Dupree also had held pastorates in the Oklahoma and El Paso districts of the Methodist church.
In addition to his evangelistic work, Mr. Dupree had for more than a year conducted a letter service shop at 1016 Avenue H in Lubbock.
Funeral services had not been arranged at midnight but it was believed likely that burial would be in Ada, Okla.
Survivors include the wife and two daughters.
