Professional baseball player. Pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1935, for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1936 to 1939 and for the Chicago Cubs from 1939 to 1947. In the 1945 World Series, he pitched a one-hitter against the Detroit Tigers. He was on the National League All Star team in every year from 1941 to 1946, Had a lifetime earned run average of 3.75 and a win lose record of 162 - 150.
