COLUMBIA - Steven "Shay" Hargrave Adams, 54, died Saturday, October 8, 2011.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of Elizabeth Stepp Adams and the late Grey Littleton Adams.

Shay was a descendant of one of the oldest pioneer families of the Black Mountain N.C. area and he leaves behind many relatives in that historic area. He was an avid traveler and photographer as well as an accomplished creative artist, specializing in linoleum cut art. He was also quite active in the Sumter Youth Theatre.

Since retiring from the U.S. Air Force, Shay worked in a variety of jobs and traveled extensively. He maintained pen pals in almost every country in the world.

Surviving are his mother, Elizabeth "Libby" Stepp Adams; eleven cousins; a host of dear friends around the world; and his loving dog, Saddle.
