Mrs. Cora Bell Pitt Forbes, aged 84, widow of Dr. E. C. Forbes, died Sunday, June 20, at 815 p. m. at Fairhaven Nursing Home, Pulaski, after a long illness. Funeral services were held at Ardmore Methodist Church at 2 p. m. Monday and burial took place at Blanche Cemetery.
Mrs. Forbes was the only child of Alonzo Cole "Lon" Pitt (1856-1909) and Nancy Pitt Pitt White (1864-1940), pioneer families of Springfield, Tennessee. She was a direct descendant of Arthur Pitt, founder of the Pitt Distillery in Springfield. The Pitt Distillery and Pitt Home were inducted into the National Registry of Historic Places in 1966.
On March 17, 1897, she married Dr. Eliphas Cowan Forbes (1867-1940) of Lincoln County, TN. The wedding took place in the Pitt home in Springfield. The Forbes' lived in Lincoln County, TN until 1920, when they moved to Ardmore, TN.
Ms. Forbes was a member of the Ardmore United Methodist Church and known throughout the Ardmore community for her antique-filled immaculate home and her caramel pies.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Janie Brown, Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Elizabeth Arnold, Auburn, Ala., Mrs. Anne Laura White, Memphis, and Mrs. Frances Walker, Paducah, Ky.; three sons, Cowan Forbes, Ardmore, Tenn., Madden Forbes, Town Creek, Ala., and Bill Forbes, Memphis; ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
