Private Harper was a member of the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on July 16, 1952. Private Harper was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.

Military Rites For Pvt. Harper Set Saturday-----The body of Pvt. EVERETT CLOYD HARPER who was killed in action in Korea on July 16, is to arrive in Muscatine Friday and will be taken to the Fairbanks Home for Funerals. Services will be held Saturday at the Fairbanks chapel with the Rev. James Sloan, pastor of the Park Avenue Methodist church, in charge.

The American Legion will conduct military rites at the grave in Memorial Park cemetery.

Pvt. Harper was born Dec. 15, 1930, at Rock Island, the son of EVERETTE C.HARPER and BERYL L. GRAY.

For about five years prior to entering military service, he made his home with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gray, 154 Sherman street. He attended Muscatine high school and had been employed at the Bestler Corp., Davenport. Survivors include his father, of East Moline, Ill., one brother, RAY C., of Davenport; two sisters, Mrs. ELAINE FITZSIMMONS and MAXINE HARPER, of Davenport; his grandmothers, Mrs. JENNIE Harper of North English and Mrs. JEMIAN GRAY of East Moline; and the aunt and uncle in Muscatine.

------"THE MUSCATINE JOURNAL", Muscatine, Iowa, Tuesday, October 14, 1952----Funeral Rites---Pvt. Everette C. Harper---Funeral services for Pvt. Everette Cloyd Harper, who was killed in action in Korea July 16, were held Saturday at the Fairbanks Home for Funerals with the Rev. James Sloan, pastor of the Park Avenue Methodist church, officiating.
Singers were Mr. and Mrs. Raynard James, and Miss Eva Kramer was at the organ. Flower attendents were Helen Stammer, Sally Patton and Marjorie Friederichs.

Pallbearers, members of the Muscatine Motorcycle club and other friends, were Richard Johnston, Donald Schmelzer, Clifford Cozad, Robert Stamer, James Norris and Keith Walker. Following the rites at the Fairbanks chapel, military rites were conducted at the grave with officers, firing squad and color guard of the Edward H. Bitzer post of Muscatine participating.

Those from the post participating were Maynard Fisher, A. J. Cordwell, Ralph McBride, Don Young, Eugene Sywassink, Glen Crow, Clair Phillips, Earl Will, Lloyd Suttles, Paul Petersen, Walter Truitt and Kenneth Bartelt, commander. Jesse L. McKnight, connected with the sixth army escort detachment at Oakland army base, Oakland, Calif., was the designated escort.

---Additional information----He was serving with the 23rd Infantry regiment of the Second division as a machine gunner. Private Harper entered the service Dec. 6, 1951. He received his basic training at Fort Riley, Kan., and left Fort Lawton, Wash., for overseas duty. He arrived in Japan June 14. He was preceded in death by his mother, one brother and one sister.
