Capt. Joshua S. Lawrence, 29, of Nashville, Tenn. died Oct. 8, in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with a rocket propelled grenade. They were assigned to the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo. According to the public affairs office at Fort Carson, Capt. Lawrence entered the Army on April 16, 2005 and joined his unit on May 6, 2011. His tour in Afghanistan began in June 2011. Among his honors were: Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal.

Captain Joshua Sean Lawrence, age 29, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011 in Afghanistan. Preceded in death by his father, Robert William Lawrence on July 30, 2010. Survived by his wife, Brittany Harris Lawrence of Kermersville, NC; mother, Judy Norman Lawrence, Nashvile; one sister, Major Kendra Lawrence of Silver Spring, MD; and brother, Zachary Lawrence of Nashville; grandparents, Glespie and Arthenia Norman. Joshua enlisted in the U. S. Army on June of 2005 and served 2 tours in Korea. He married Brittany on May 31, 2011 and was deployed 7 days later on June 7, 2011 to Afghanistan. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Austin Peay University in Clarksville. He was awarded Eagle Scout on the same day as his brother, Zachary; a member of Valley View Baptist Church, Nashville, TN. Full Military Funeral Services will be on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 1 p.m., with visitation Thursday from 1-8 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Goodlettsville, 613 S. Main Street, Goodlettsville, TN. Contributions may be given in memory of Capt. Joshua Lawrence and Capt. Drew Russell to: Fisher House for Families of the Fallen Heroes, Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations, 116 Purple Heart Drive, Dover AFB, DE 19902.
