Saddler, Company G, 7th US Cavalry. Killed in action at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, in which most of his regiment was also killed.

He married Mary Elizabeth Beck, age 19, on 10 November 1864 in Sturgis, Minnesota, and resided in LaGrange, Indiana for several years. They were divorced on 30 December 1874, and he enlisted on 21 June 1875 in Chicago, giving his previous occupation as Saddler (a person who makes and repairs saddles and other riding equipment). He had gray eyes, light brown hair, a fair complexion, and was 5 feet, 5 ½ inches tall. His widow, Mary E. Selby, married David Jennings, a livery stable operator on 6 September 1880, in Sturgis, Minnesota, and applied for a pension, but was denied. Selby was killed on Last Stand Hill, along with all of the soldiers of Custer's Column, and was initially buried where he fell. In 1878, the bodies of the soldiers were removed from their field burials and reinterred in a mass grave at the top of Last Stand Hill, where his body remains today.
