US Congresswoman. Born in Morven, North Carolina, she attended Queens College and was the Troy newspaper editor, (1923-24). She served as secretary to Members of Congress from the Eighth Congressional District North Carolina, (1924-46). In 1946, she was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of William O. Burgin, serving until 1947. Not a candidate for re-nomination, she was employed with the Office of Alien Property, Washington, D.C., (1947-51), Department of Agriculture (1951-54) and with the Library of Congress, (1954-56). She secretary to US Representative Kitchin of North Carolina, (1957-62) and served as public relations head for North Carolina Telephone Company, until her death at age 79 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
