Edward Walter Barton was the youngest of eight children born to William Walter Barton and Ida Elizabeth Collvins. He was born in Red River Bend, Texas, but by 1920 had moved to Bryan County Oklahoma with his parents. They moved to Mountain View in Kiowa County, Oklahoma and were found there on the 1930 census. He married Edith Marie Wilhelm November 13, 1933. They were parents of 3 children, Ruby Gayle and twins Melvin Wayne and Elvin Dayne.
