MRS. JENNIE FRANJE
Mrs. Jennie Franje, nee Jennie
Bastiaatje "Jennie" Ver Steegt, daughter of Cornelius
Ver Steegt and Adriana De
Hoop was born at (Lopik) Schoonhoven,
Utrecht, the Netherlands on
August 14th., 1876.
She was united in marriage to
Gerrit Boerefyn and to this union
seven children were born, two
preceding her in death.
In 1906, she came to America
and settled in the vicinity of
Peoria. In 1910 her husband passed
away and in 1916 she was
married to Marinus Franje. To
this union was born one daughter,
Henrietta. Mr. Franje passed
away in 1926.
Surviving are her children:
Peter Boerefyn of Pella; Cornelius
Boerefyn of Peoria; Jennie,
Mrs. Gysbert Beekhuizen of Tracy;
John Boerefyn of Leighton; Rev.
Gerrit Boerefyn of San Jose,
Calif.; and Henrietta, Mrs. Harold
Van Pol of Oskaloosa.
Four stepchildren survive: Mrs.
Lucy De Ruiter of Pella; Fannie,
Mrs. John Roozeboom of Oskaloosa;
Marie, Mrs. Gerrit Roozeboom
of Oskaloosa; and Peter
Franje of New Sharon. Also 19
grandchildren, two preceding her
in death, and 6 great grandchildren;
as well as one brother, Gerrit
Ver Steegt of Lynnville and
one brother and 4 sisters in
Netherlands.
She affiliated with the Christian
Reformed Church upon coming
to America and has continued to
be a faithful member of the First
Christian Reformed Church.
She reached the age of 79 years, 7
months and 9 days.
Funeral services were held on
Wednesday, March 28, 1956 at
1 p.m., at the Van Dyk-Duven
Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m.,
from the First Christian Reformed
Church. Dr. P. Y. De Jong officiated
and interment was in the
Oakwood Cemetery
