A retired educator, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Winnfield, she passed away at 3:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 83, a graduate of Winnfield High School and Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, Miss., and earned a master's degree at LSU. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home chapel, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 10 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, conducted by Dr. B. Keith Putt. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Amanda Brewer and William K. "King" Butler of Ponchatoula, and Bertha Brewer of New Roads; a son and daughter-in-law, John F. Jr. and Susan Brewer of Shreveport; a sister, Hazel Melton of Baton Rouge; abrother, Thomas A. Durham of Alexandria; and five grandchildren, Brian Butler, Conley Narozniak, Lauren Narozniak, John F. Brewer III and Jake Brewer. She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Brewer Sr.; and her parents, Jessie and Cora Killingsworth Durham. She was a member of University Baptist Church, ADK and BPW. Memorial donations may be made to University Baptist Church, 203 Leeward Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70808.
