Gideon D. TROUT was born 9 Aug 1809 in Allegheny Township, Huntingdon, PA, the son of John TROUT, Sr. (1781-1838) and Elizabeth AKE (1783-1853).

"Spring Meadow, a hamlet N.E. part of E. St. Clair Twp. Bedford Co. This was all part of Gideon D. Trout's Big Spring Farm. Within was a store, post office, grist mill, large brick mansion, and several tenement houses, all belonging to the one great farm of Gideon D. Trout. The store burned, the great spring and lake have been acquired by the state of Penna. for a trout hatchery. A new mill was erected, the mansion was refurbished by the Hon. John M. Reynolds."
