Lewis served as a Private, Battery B, 381st Field Artillery Battalion, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Suffolk County, Massachusetts and was previously a member of the Massachusetts National Guard prior to the war.

The National Guard unit he was previously a member of was called into full time active Army service on November 19, 1942 from Boston, Massachusetts. Since he had only been out of the Guard for less than three months he was called back into service with the unit. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents.

While in the service he met and started a relationship with Margaret Eunice Pickett.

They were married on August 16, 1944 in New Hope, Pennsylvania.

After the war they settled in New Hope, Pennsylvania.

Son of Robert & Hattie (Hayman) Gorrell.

Father of John Lewis Gorrell, Lawrence Jay Gorrell, William John Gorrell, Eric Jan Gorrell, and Winfield Charles Gorrell.
