Sportsman. He was the umpire who ruled on the first curve ball pitch in baseball history, thrown by Richard Willis against the Live Oaks in September 1860. He was himself a professional baseball player, as well as a successful attorney and senior regional leader of the Independent Order of Oddfellows.
