Bliss, Kermit E. "Kert"
MADISON - Kermit E. "Kert" Bliss, age 86, passed away at Meriter Hospital on Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, from complications of a stroke. He was born on March 31, 1920, in Sigorney, Iowa. Kert received his undergraduate degree from Drake University and his master's degree from the UW-Madison. On June 18, 1949, he married Wilma Kirch in Madison. He served with the Army Air Corps 7th Photo Recon Group and retired as Col. U.S. Air Force. Kert was the director of the Madison Community Center. Since retiring in 1985, Kert was an active volunteer at First Congregational Church, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum and at Meriter Main Gate, where he served in many volunteer capacities. He is survived by 2 daughters; 3 grandchildren, a sister, Gene Gay; a nephew, and also by many Kirch relatives. Kert was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ina (Clark) Bliss; his wife of 55 years, Wilma (Kirch) Bliss; and a son-in-law, Kent. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 1609 University Avenue, Madison, with the Rev. Curt Anderson officiating. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the church or to Meriter Foundation. Cress Funeral and Cremation Service 3610 Speedway Road.
