Walter Marvin Loveday, born on August 19, 1924 to Elbert Elester and Rosetta Hannah Williams Loveday. He died on July 15, 1982 in Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio after a short illness.

Walter Marvin Loveday Marine PFC awarded the "Purple Heart" for wounds received in action on 20 Feb 1945 against an enemy of the United States on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands. He was severely wounded in hand to hand combat on his 2nd day of fighting on Iwo Jima.

Walter Marvin Loveday Pfc USMCS 802826; 2nd Armored Battalion-4 Condition is result of enemy action, 26 February 1945, Iwo Jima Island, Volcanic group line of duty. Fatigue, Combat #2170. Favorable Non-flight. Admitted from beach 28 February 1945. Transferred to back to beach, 2 March 1945.

Family had been notified that he had been killed in action on the beach of Iwo Jima and did not know he was indeed alive until he walked through the gate of the family home.

Marvin was an employee of the Southern Ohio Coal Company, Meigs Mine #1. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Gallipolis and the UMW. He was a Marine Veteran of WW II.

Surviving wife: Zeffie Spaulding Loveday; sons, Johnny and Albert both of Route 1 Bidwell. Walter Jr. of Route 2, Bidwell; daughter Mrs Toni Evans of Davenport, Iowa; brothers Garland of Marmet, WV, Ernest of Saint Albans, WV, sisters: Mrs Jettie Rawlins of Toledo, Ohio, Mrs Mildred Davis of Dobson, NC, Mrs Elsie McComas of Malden, WV, and seven grandchildren.

Services at the Church of God of Prophesy in Gallipolis with the Rev PJ Chapman officiating. Military graveside services by the VFW in Vinton Memorial Park.
