E.C. "Skinny" Crews, 96, of Tomball, Texas passed away October 7, 2011, of natural causes.
A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011, in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his sweetheart. Community Memorial Funeral Home, 1443 North 2nd Street, Abilene, will direct the service. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2011 at the funeral home.
E.C. was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on July 17, 1915 to Rosie Caroline (Key) and Charlie William Crews. He was a Medic in the United States Army, where he proudly served during the 2nd World War. E.C. married Laverne McKinney Crews on February 24, 1950 in Throckmorton, Texas. They moved to Abilene in 1948 and lived here until 1996. He was an electrician and truck driver by trade, and retired from Central Freight Lines in the 1980's. E.C. was a faithful member of several organizations including the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry (32nd Degree Mason) in Abilene, Texas, where he enjoyed being a Shriner clown for many years; the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW); and Amateur Radio Operators.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne McKinney Crews; step-son, Jerry McKinney; and grandsons, Gregory Landreth and Larry McKinney.
Survivors include his step-daughter, Sue McKinney Carroll; grandsons, Steve and Ron Landreth; granddaughters, Christie Greenan and Angela Hair; eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other friends and loved ones.
