William Fletcher Burge, Jr., 76, of Rt. 2, Gladstone, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2003, at Appomattox Health Care Center with his family at 7:45 p.m. He was the husband of Eleanor B. Burge.
Mr. Burge was born September 9, 1927, in Appomattox, Co., son of the late William Fletcher and Elizabeth Bell Burge.
Fletcher retired from the C&O Railroad with 38 years of service. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of Chestnut Mountain Hunting Club, and Brotherhood of Railroad Association, and served in the US Army during WWII.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Judy B. Robertson (Mike), of Concord; son, L. Rick Burge (Kathy), of Appomattox; three grandchildren, Shannon J. Branham (Larry), Megan A. Burge, and Zachary R. Burge, one great grandson, Connor J. Branham; special grandchildren, Brandon and Aaron Robertson, and Taylor Bryant; a special daughter, Brenda H. Truslow (Mark), of Lovingston; a special granddaughter, Samantha Truslow; four sisters, Mrs. Lelia Martin (Dick), Mrs. Bertie Baird (Bill); Mrs. Lou Roach (John); Mrs. Dorothy Carter (Sam), all of Appomattox; and a sister-in-law, Jeanette C. Burge, of Lynchburg; and an aunt, Alease Burge, of Ruckersville. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Gertrude M. Burge of Concord. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard A. "Dick" Burge, Sr. and Grover Cleveland Burge.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, October 19, 2003, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Thorne officiating. Burial followed in Mount Comfort United Methodist Church Cemetery.
