US Congressman. He was born one of eight children (he also had three brothers and four sisters) in Millbrook, New York, to Obadiah Titus I and Mary Robbins Titus and he was educated locally. He later studied law and was admitted to the bar and then commenced the practice of law in Washington, New York. He was also active in agricultural pursuits and farming, and he served as Secretary of the Dutchess County, New York, Agricultural Society. He was also an organizer of the Dutchess County, New York, Mutual Insurance Company. He became active in the military and he was part of the New York Militia and was later appointed an Ensign in Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Herrick's Regiment of Light Infantry. During the War of 1812, he served as a Captain in the 141st Infantry Regiment of New York. Following the war, he was elected as a County Judge, and then as the Sheriff of Dutchess County, New York, from 1828 to 1831. He then decided to run for a seat in the United States Congress and was elected. A Democrat, he then served New York's 5th District (Twenty-Fifth Congress) in the United States House of Representatives from 1837 to 1839. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Twenty-Fifth Congress in 1838. After his term in the United States Congress expired on March 3, 1839, he was succeeded by United States Representative Charles Johnston. After his time in public service, he resumed his practice of law and his active business pursuits. He lastly served as a Vice President of the New York and Albany Railroad. He was married twice, first to Sarah T. Grey (with whom he had seven children) and for the second time to Mary Townsend at the age of 59 in 1850. His first wife Sarah passed away on July 13, 1862, at the age of 81. His second wife Mary passed away on April 10, 1885, at the age of 83. He passed away on September 2, 1854, at the age of 65, and was buried in the Nine Partners Cemetery in his birthplace of Millbrook, New York.
