U.S. Congressman. At the age of seventeen, he enlisted and served in Company C, 3rd Texas Cavalry, Confederate Army, during the Civil War. After the war, he studied law, was admitted to the bar but never practiced law and became a planter. In 1891, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second Congress, serving until 1893. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he engaged in the newspaper business and was a member of the Texas State House of Representatives, (1913-14).
