HARRINGTON. Capt. John Henry Tabbutt, an old and respected citizen, died on the 12th last, after a long and tedious illness. He bore his sufferings with remarkable fortitude and patiently waited for the end. He was confined to the house for more than a year.

He was born in Addison, Me., Nov. 6th, 1831, and consequently was 68 years old at the time of his death.

He leaves a widow and two children, Mrs. Edgar H. Allen, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Fred Holmes, who has been a student at Castine Normal school.

Capt. Tabbutt began to follow the sea at an early age. He worked his way up, and when quite young became the master of a vessel.

Among the vessels he commanded were the brig Black Hawk and the brig Lizeabell, which was built at Columbia Falls. In the latter he made many voyages, running at one time in the cotton trade between Galveston and Boston. The last vessel he sailed was the three-masted schooner Susan P. Thurlow, built at Harrington. He retired from the sea about 15 years ago.

He Joined the Masons when a young man at Fernandina, Fla., and afterward became a member of the lodge at Additon[sic]. Later he was taken into the Royal Arch chapter at Cherryfield, and lastly, he united with the St. Elmo commandery at Machias.

The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon and was largely attended, many Masons being present from out of town. Services were held at the house, a brother Mason, Rev. S.O. Young, who has frequently been at his bedside to minister comfort and consolation being the officiating clergyman.

A choir consisting of the following singers, Miss Geneva Plummer, soprano; Mrs. Edwin V. Coffin, alto; Mr. Lewis F. Nash, tenor, and Mr. Edwin McKenzie, bass, rendered the beautiful hymns, God is Love, and Safe at Home. The services at the cemetery were very impressive, as the Masonic rites always are.
