Wm. A. Asbury, Gill Township Veteran Passes

William A. Asbury, World War 1 veteran and a life long resident of Gill township, died at the Veterans’ Hospital in Indianapolis, Saturday, October 19th, the body being shipped to Carlisle, arriving here Sunday. The deceased was taken to the Veterans’ Hospital about a week previous to his death, his ailment being an intestinal trouble.

The deceased was born in Gill township October 14, 1887, the son of Simeon and Nancy Vest Asbury, and at the time of death was 48 years and 5 days of age. Just two months before his death, on August 19, 1935, he was united in marriage to Minnie Holland, of Paxton. His parents and a sister preceded him in death. He is survived by the wife.

Funeral services were conducted from the Rose Chapel M. E. church at two o’clock Monday afternoon, the sermon being preached by Horace Hinds. Ritualistic services of the American Legion were held at the grave in the Webb cemetery by Carlisle Post No. 236 and the local post was assisted by the firing squad and color bearers of the Sullivan Post.
