OBITUARY - SOUTHWEST TIMES RECORD - FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS - TUESDAY, AUGUST 26, 1980 - PAGE 4B

FRANCIS "FRANK" ADRIAN GERDES, 86, of Van Buren, died Saturday (August 23, 1980) in a Van Buren nursing home.

Rosary will be recited at 6:30p Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service will be at 9:00a Thursday at National Cemetery in Fort Smith.

A veteran of World War I, he was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the American Legion. He was a 50 year member of the Redlands, CA Elks Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Jeanne Ball of Van Buren, AR; one son, Ralph Gerdes of Redlands, CA; one sister, Teresa Remore of Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, Gary Ball and Brad Ball of Van Buren, AR and Nancy Gerdes, Jamie Gerdes and Chris Gerdes Miller all of California; and one great-grandchild.

Francis "Frank" Gerdes was the husband of Leona Emily Vondal Gerdes (8/17/1891 - 12/2/1964). They were married on June 21, 1920 in Walhalla, Pembina County, North Dakota at the St. Boniface Church.

Francis was the son of George Herman Gerdes (1/4/1871 - 11/9/1962) and Elizabeth Medesta (Cassidy) Gerdes (12/22/1874 - 7/10/1940).
George and Elizabeth were married in Gilman, Iroquois County, Illinois on March 16, 1893.
