San Antonio Mayor. Served as the Mayor of San Antonio, Texas, in 1839. Also served as a Delegate to the Texas Republic Constitutional Convention in 1836, and Member of the Texas State Legislature in 1845. His name is the origin of the term 'Maverick' for an unbranded cow, which later came to mean a political party dissident.
