Mr. Bonsant was educated in Augusta schools and served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a temporary employee of the U.S. Postal Service prior to his retirement.
He was previously employed by Carlton Woolen Mill, Bates Manufacturing Co. and Hudson Pulp & Paper Co.
Mr. Bonsant was a member of St. Michael Parish at St. Augustine Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Pine Tree Post Veterans of Foreign Wars, a former member of Le Club Calumet and the Military Order of Cooties.
His wife, Albertine A. (Gagon) Bonsant, died on Feb. 26, 1992. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Yvette Manwaring, Florida "Babe" Fitzgerald and Rita Gaslin; and three brothers, Arthur, Clement and Richard Bonsant.
Surviving is a daughter, Donna Bonsant, of Augusta; a son, Gary J. Bonsant, and his wife, Susan, of Augusta, and their son, Matthew, of Ithaca, N.Y.; one sister, Therese Dube, of Litchfield; one brother, Raymond Bonsant, and his wife, Joan, of Augusta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no public visiting hours. Committal prayers and military honors will be offered in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. (Kennebec Journal 10/8/2011)
