US Congressman. Born in Hobart, New York, he graduated from Lafayette College Pennsylvania, in 1898, studied law in the New York Law School, graduated from the Brooklyn Law School in 1911, was admitted to the bar in 1912 and commenced to practice law in New York City. He also engaged in work with the mining department of the Carnegie Steel Company and was the secretary of mines of the US Steel Corporation, (1901-07). In 1921, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh and Sixty-eighth Congresses, serving until 1925. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he pursued agricultural endeavors until he was again elected to the Seventieth Congress in 1927 and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until his death in an automobile collision at age 60.
