US Congressman. He served as Captain, Company H, 23rd North Carolina Infantry Regiment. Wounded and captured at Gettysburg, PA, on 1 July 1863. Paroled on 28 Sep 1864 and exchanged 5 Oct 1864. Elected to represent Georgia's 2nd and 11th Districts in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1881 to 1897. Also served as a Member of the Georgia State House of Representatives in 1874, Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Georgia in 1876, and Justice of the Georgia State Supreme Court in 1903.
