He married Grace Biggs Cash on October 17, 1931, at the Bowling Green Christian Church and they resided at 5920 Clemens in St. Louis. They joined the Third Baptist Church in 1931 and remained there for 28 years. Their daughter Carol Sue was born in September 1939, and the family moved to 805 Newport Avenue in 1949.
Carl worked for Emerson Electric Company from the early 1940's until 1964. He was "loaned out" to McDonnell-Douglas during the War and helped with engineering and design problems on the B-24 bomber and other military aircraft. He continued to work on aircraft design, became a permanent employee of McDonnell-Douglas in 1964, and retired in 1970.
Carl and Grace became members of Old Orchard Chapel (later called Old Orchard Bible Church) in 1959. Carl was a deacon from 1960 to 1976 along with Charlie Walter, and became an elder for the following five years. Carl enjoyed working in the church: repairing and maintaining the building, and serving the congregation.
In 1984, Carl and Grace sold their home to a member of Old Orchard Church, Becca Bowers, and moved to Friendship Village, a retirement center in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Carl and Grace have been involved in many "ministries" out there, including being official greeters, hail and fire wardens, and participants in the Wednesday evening Bible study and Sunday afternoon worship services. Carl rarely missed an opportunity to speak boldly about the Lord to residents at the Village and to any and all visitors. Carl was an unusual and exceptional exemplar of spiritual wisdom, experience, and counsel to those who came
seeking the guidance of their elders. Carl loved the Lord and His Word passionately, and he inspired and motivated those who are seeking a closer walk.
